Tattoo Aftercare.
Ointment Method
1. Remove your bandage after a few hours or leave it on overnight to prevent your tattoo from sticking to clothing and sheets. After removing, wash your tattoo with warm water & liquid soap then gently pat dry. There’s no need to re-bandage.
2. Apply a thin layer of A&D Ointment or Aquaphor, 2 or 3 times a day, for 3 days only.
3. After 3 days, switch to using a fragrance-free lotion like Lubriderm. If lotion is still visible after applying, you’ve used too much.
4. In 2-3 days your tattoo will begin to flake or scab. Do not pick or scratch your tattoo.
5. Do not submerge your tattoo in pools, baths, hot tubs, or other bodies of water. Showering is acceptable.
6. Keep your new tattoo clean. Wash gently 2-3 times a day until healed.
7. Do not expose your tattoo to direct sunlight or tanning beds.
Tegaderm Method
Tegaderm, also known as Saniderm, is a sterile, breathable, waterproof barrier that protects new tattoos from contamination. Some of our artists prefer this method of healing but it requires slightly different aftercare:
1. Your artist will bandage your tattoo with Tegaderm and provide you with a second bandage. Leave the original bandage on overnight.
2. The next morning, carefully remove and discard the Tegaderm
3. Re-cover your tattoo with the second Tegaderm bandage. Leave it on for 3-4 days.
4. You can shower normally while healing, but abstain from swimming or submerging your tattoo in water.
5. After removing the second bandage, clean thoroughly with warm water & liquid hand soap. Apply a fragrance-free lotion until your tattoo is healed.
